I had cataract surgery in one eye 3 years ago before I moved here from St. Louis. When the other eye developed a cataract, I asked my surgeon there to recommend an eye surgeon in the Austin area. He suggested Austin Eye since they use the same procedure and lenses he uses. I choose Dr. Marie Bui after reading her credentials on the Austin Eye web site. What a great choice. She is not only very knowledgeable, but takes the time to explain, just like a teacher with drawings and photos, how the eye works, what is happening with the cataract and the procedures she will perform. The surgery went exactly as anticipated and I am now seeing perfectly from both eyes, with no need for glasses. Thank you Dr. Bui.

Dr. Marie Bui performed eye lid surgery on me on December 2, 2014. It was a very positive experience. Dr Bui and her staff are very professional, friendly, and know what they are doing. The entire process, step by step, was explained to me and you always have the sense you are in competent hands. During my surgery, I was fully awake, but did not feel any pain or discomfort. The initial small injection for anesthetic hurts less than a vaccine injection. I was able to hear and talk to Dr. Bui and the staff. She did an excellent job. After my surgery, I had no drainage of blood, no drainage of other liquids, and minimal swelling. You are supposed to use ice packs ten minutes every hour post-op and I usually did 15 minutes or more to make sure that the cold was coming through the cloth. I slept on a recliner the first two nights to reduce any swelling. The improvement in my appearance was very apparent just one week after surgery. I do not hesitate to recommend Dr. Bui and her staff.

Through out my childhood and my adult life, I had to wear glasses with some very thick lenses. Every morning, I had to grope around for my glasses before taking my first step out of bed. I was not to far off from being legally blind. In 2001, I met Dr. Shannon Wong at Austin Eye. He performed Lasik Surgery on my eyes. The results were amazing! I went from not being able to see in front of my face to being able to pass my vision test at the Department of Public Safety. I received my driver license without any restrictions! Recently, I experienced a severe eye injury after being hit with a tree branch. My cornea was torn and everything was a blur. I was concerned that I could have some permanent damage. Again, I put my trust in the hands of Dr. Shannon Wong. He performed a surgical procedure on my eye requiring stitches and several follow up visits. I am so thankful: my vision has been completely restored! Dr. Wong and his staff are very experienced, friendly, and genuinely concerned about their patients. I would not go any where else!

Great doctor! The staff was friendly and the process was easy. Most importantly, the surgery was the best thing I’ve done for myself.

My experience with Dr. Shannon Wong was more than I could have possibly wished for — after two Crystalens surgeries performed consecutively in one week, I now have perfect 20/20 vision in both eyes and I can read documents or a computer screen without reading glasses and at the same time my distant vision is crisp and clear. All my life I have struggled with high myopia — as a teen I even wore nickel-sized hard contacts to play water polo. I depended heavily on contact lenses, but as I got older I began to have several problems with contacts which caused my vision to get even worse. I developed dry eyes which affects the lens refraction against the cornea so things become blurry. Then I developed bilateral cataracts, and finally I was having trouble seeing even with corrective lenses — trouble driving, trouble working ( I am a physician). My home ophthamologist recommended cataract surgery but he didn’t mention Crystalens — an accommodating lens. I did some research on my own and started watching cataract surgeries performed on Youtube and learned about the advantages of Crystalens. I recently moved to Texas and found Dr. Shannon Wong on the Crystalens website. He had excellent credentials and a great deal of experience. I also noticed that Dr. Wong performs the Crystalens surgery with lasers and computer-guided assistance, while most of the other surgeries I viewed on YouTube were performed “by hand”. I could see that Dr. Wong used the latest leading edge technologies, and was an expert highly-experienced and talented surgeon. As Dr. Wong performed my surgery, I was completely comfortable in his hands. Furthermore, as Dr. Wong performed step after step I heard his reassuring voice say “perfect……..yes perfect…………there we are………..perfect”. In fact, every step of the operation was indeed perfect and the outcome was also perfect. When I returned home I decided to use my 20/20 vision to get re-certified as a private pilot. My flight instructor wore tri-focals. He asked me ” how is it that you have 20/20 vision but you are my age and you don’t need reading glasses ? I replied “just lucky I guess”. Someday maybe I will tell him my Crystalens story…….
