About Our Optometrist at Austin Eye

Dr. Sarah Forrest, OD – Bio

Dr. Sarah Forrest was raised in the close-knit community of Jackson in southeast Missouri. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Allied Health from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, graduating summa cum laude. She went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry degree from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry (NSUOCO) in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where she again graduated summa cum laude in May 2011.

During her time at NSUOCO, Dr. Forrest distinguished herself academically and clinically, receiving several honors, including the NSUOCO Award of Clinical Excellence, the Pfeiffer Award for Excellence in Research Related to Practice Management, and the Southwest Contact Lens Award. She was also an active member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society and the Northeastern State University Honor Society. Her clinical training included externships at TLC Laser Eye Center and BVA Advanced Eye Care in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Following optometry school, Dr. Forrest and her husband relocated to South Texas, where she
worked closely with a leading refractive surgery physician. She quickly became involved in the regional optometric society, serving the Rio Grande Valley Optometric Society as Vice President (2012–2013) and President (2014).

Throughout her career, Dr. Forrest has practiced in diverse clinical settings across Texas,
Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Her experience includes providing eye care for active-duty service
members at Fort Hood, serving as Clinical Director at a premier refractive surgery center in
Texas, and delivering comprehensive medical eye care in both Arkansas and Oklahoma. Longing to be back in Texas, she and her family returned in the summer of 2025.

Dr. Forrest is passionate about helping patients explore the full range of vision correction options and advanced treatments for ocular disease. She brings extensive experience in medical eye care and refractive surgery co-management. Her commitment to service extends beyond the clinic, including vision screenings for the Special Olympics and providing comprehensive eye care during a medical mission trip to Guatemala. She has been an active member of the Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma Optometric Associations, as well as the American Optometric Association.

Outside of work, Dr. Forrest enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, their two children, and their two dogs. She especially enjoys watching her son play tennis and her daughter perform at her local ballet studio.

“Eyesight is our most important sense. It is my commitment to provide compassionate eye care, preserve this gift, and guide you every step of the way with the most advanced treatments available today.”
