My vision started to deteriorate in my mid-40s. First to go was near vision, then far. I kept up with my declining vision to a point with increasingly strong prescription glasses. Finally, Dr. Wong said, very kindly but frankly, “You know, Dan, there is only so much we can do about your cataracts from the outside (with glasses). Sooner or later, your vision will get so bad you’ll require laser lens replacement.” Well, I dragged my feet more than 5 years on that one. I had tried contact lenses previously, and ended up throwing them in the trash. I couldn’t stand them in my eyes, even if I could eventually manage to get them inserted in the first place! No way I was doing eye surgery! Are you kidding? The decline was gradual, but I finally lost central vision in my left eye due to a dense cataract. As a retired physician, I am quite aware of potential complications of surgery, but I was becoming functionally blind. I finally had no choice but to get this fixed. Dr. Wong replaced the lens in my left eye August 18. Post-op, the visual clarity was so jaw-dropping I immediately scheduled the right eye! One day post-op from that my visual acuity was 20/20 in both eyes, and it keeps getting better! If I had a third eye, I’d be signed up for that one as well. Fear is the only thing that kept me from doing this years ago. Dr. Wong and his staff are so professional, yet kind, supportive, and empathetic I could not imagine a better experience. And guess what? ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN whatsoever! The worst part was having to stare into bright lights for a few minutes. Seriously. Piece of cake. Make Dr. Shannon Wong and the staff at Austin Eye part of your A-team! You will be amazed at what they can accomplish in literally the blink of an eye. Superheroes!

Nearly all my life I’ve had to wear glasses and or contacts. I dealt with being near sighted , a right lazy eye , and astigmatism in both eyes as well as double vision . A few years back I was told by my acting eye Dr. that I had early stages of cataracts. Hearing this worried me as to how would I ever be able to afford to have ANY SURGERY done to correct the issue. My husband had his first cataract surgery with Dr. Shannon Wong at Austin Eye . He strongly urged me to make an appointment for an evaluation to see if I could qualify for the procedure( s ) to done. Sure enough I did qualify and my first procedure was on June 9 , 2020 ( for the left eye ) and the second on June 16th , 2020 ( for the right eye ). I was treated with the highest professionalism and courtesy from Dr. Wong and the staff of Austin Eye. I now am seeing better and better as time goes on and I am DELIGHTED with the results !!! It’s the first time in over 50 + years of my life that I can see clearly and WITHOUT GLASSES OR CONTACTS !!! It has really been a life changing experience for me ! I feel AMAZING and so much more HAPPIER now ! I HIGHLY RECCOMEND Austin Eye to any and all who are dealing with vision problems. I had a unique, life-changing experience at Austin Eye. Dr. Shannon Wong performed a lens replacement on my left eye just as he had done 3 years before on my right eye. When I was 14 years old my right eye had been damaged by a B-B gun pellet. Dr. Wong was able with his lens implant to restore nearly all of my normal vision for close-in work like reading. When I came in 3 weeks ago for a lens replacement to remove my cataracts I expected good results. Dr. Wong left no doubt about what I had to expect. But, what I experienced, in fact, was far more than what I ever could have hoped for. When I was 16 applying for a driver's license I discovered that I had no depth perception, zip-zero-nada. All my life I have viewed the world as a big flat-screen TV. After the surgery I thought I was imagining things. I was seeing things stereoscopically. My world had literally changed. When I went in for my final check-up today I had them test me for depth perception and I was right! I'm not sure how it happened. All I can tell you it was near a miracle.

Exceptional care. I needed a thorough eye exam after being surprised by some numbers concerning my vision. Unsure of where to turn, I made an appointment with Austin Eye. Dr. Wenn and her colleagues were personable, professional, and thorough, not only correcting my vision to 20/20 but also taking the time to answer all of my questions and fill out a detailed form I needed. I left feeling grateful and hopeful. Thank you Dr. Wenn and Austin Eye!
