He also completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Pathology at Baylor.

Dr. Wong founded the Austin Eye Clinic in 1969. Since its inception, the mission of Austin Eye has been to provide the best, most caring and advanced medical and surgical eye care for Austin. Austin Eye was one of the first practices to provide small incision cataract surgery, intraocular lens technology and topical anesthesia cataract surgery in Austin. The tradition of being a leader in ophthalmic technology continues today with the use of premium lens implant technology for cataract and refractive lens surgery. Approximately 50% of Dr. Mitchel Wong’s cataract surgery patients choose to receive the latest technology presbyopia-correcting lens implants. Our mission is the continual improvement of your vision utilizing the most advanced technology.

Austin Eye Clinic has the latest in glaucoma diagnostic technology with the High Definition Optical Coherence Tomography (HD-OCT) diagnostic system. This permits us to analyze individual retinal nerve fiber layers within the eye using scanning laser technology to determine if they have been damaged by glaucoma or other eye diseases. An additional advance in the treatment of glaucoma utilizes an SLT laser. This laser treats glaucoma in a very effective, but non-invasive manner. It has the potential to improve your glaucoma control and decrease your use of glaucoma medication. This is done with a brief outpatient treatment.

Austin Eye Clinic provides the latest and most advanced technology used in lasik known as custom intralasik (aka iLASIK). This all-laser blade-free procedure coupled with the latest in wavefront technology gives the safest, most accurate laser vision correction available today. Austin Eye has always believed when it comes to your eyes, the best technology and care are the standard, second best is not good enough.

Another new advance in the improvement of your vision utilizes multifocal and accommodative lens technology. This can restore your distance and near vision, making you much more independent from glasses. This can help those with and without cataracts. These lenses are the Symfony, Restor, Tecnis multifocal and the Crystalens. In 2012, Dr. Wong was instrumental in bringing Laser Cataract Surgery to Austin. This represents the new gold standard in the art of cataract surgery.
